Greens put all their chips on May day

SIDNEY, B.C.—The campaigning nearly over, the time for replication begins.

That’s the message Elizabeth May’s supporters are pushing as the Green Party leader finishes the last stretch of her campaign carrying the huge burden of winning a seat in the House of Commons.

At the Green Party’s largest ever pre-election rally earlier in the week, 800 supporters were urged to bring in at least one new person to vote for the party, which finished third in the riding in 2008.

“History in this context is made by those who vote,” said Independent MLA Bob Simpson. “Now is the time for you to go out and replicate yourselves.” Continue reading

Simpson calls for expanded HST debate

The government should expand the current HST debate into a comprehensive assessment of B.C.’s current tax and revenue regime says  MLA for Cariboo North, Bob Simpson.

“The HST is a $1.9 billion tax shift from business to consumers at a time when consumers are facing increased cost pressures from other government policies, property tax increases, and the erosion of public services,” Simpson said.

“At the same time, consumers are also facing significant downward pressures on their wages and benefits, as the government’s own zero percent bargaining position illustrates. Continue reading

Expand HST consultation to larger tax revue: northern Independent MLA

North-central B.C. Independent MLA Bob Simpson says the B.C. Liberal government should expand its harmonized sales tax debate into a comprehensive assessment of the province’s tax and revenue regime.

The B.C. Liberal government announced this week it will be seeking public input on how the HST could be changed to get people to vote in favour of keeping the new tax.

While new Liberal Premier Christy Clark moved up the date of the vote to June 24 from September, the public has until July 22 to have their mail-in ballots into Elections B.C. Continue reading

Simpson supporters take next steps

Supporters of Independent MLA Bob Simpson filed papers today to formally establish a constituency association with Elections BC.

This step is required before those supporting the Independent MLA can raise money, issue tax receipts, and organize for the next provincial election.

The group supporting MLA Simpson believes Cariboo North has been well served by him and he is the best person to continue to represent this riding after the next election. Continue reading

Quesnel, B.C.- Supporters of Independent MLA Bob Simpson have filed papers  to formally establish a Constituency Association with Elections BC. This step is required before those supporting the Independent MLA can raise money, issue tax receipts, and organize for the next provincial election.

The group supporting Simpson says it  believes Cariboo North has been well served by Simpson and that he is the best person to continue to represent this riding after the next election.
