Back in April of this year I began lobbying the government to investigate how BC can take advantage of the rising ”bio-economy” because I believe we can be world leaders in it; creating new investment opportunities, jobs and community benefits from new industries while supporting and enhancing our traditional ones. I can happily report that my lobbying was successful. The Premier has appointed me to a special committee to investigate ways to expand the bio-economy in B.C. so as to support economic growth and job creation here in the Cariboo and across the province. You can read the Quesnel Observer story here.
The reports referenced in the Observer article are here:
Forest Products Association of Canada, two reports: “Transforming Canada’s forest products industry: Summary of findings from the Future Bio-Pathways Project” and the one that caught my attention: “The New Face of the Canadian Forest Industry – The Emerging Bio-Revolution.”
OECD’s report: The Bioeconomy to 2030: designing a policy agenda
The committee will be reporting out to the government this fall on ways BC can help spur growth in this new sector. Stay tuned.
