Bob Simpson Supports Opposition call for CLBC Review

“Ongoing concerns about the operations of Community Living BC (CLBC), and the vital services required by its clients need to be addressed immediately,” said Bob Simpson, MLA for Cariboo North. Simpson expressed his support for the Official Opposition’s call on the government to conduct an independent review of CLBC services.

Yesterday in Question Period, Opposition MLAs asked the government to review the significant gap that exists when a developmentally disabled person turns nineteen and is transitioned out of children and youth services into the CLBC system.

“I have members in my community who are experiencing serious difficulties transitioning their child to CLBC. They are not getting care plans in a timely manner and no assurance that the level of care their child needs will be provided when they become adults under the law,” said Simpson. “We need to have a full and independent review of CLBC to address these very significant concerns.”

In the throne speech earlier this week, the government promised a ‘hard look’ at Crown corporations, and Simpson said that CLBC needs to be first in line for a thorough examination.

Yesterday the government released waitlist numbers for CLBC, revealing that 2,800 disabled persons are in need of services. Simpson commended the Opposition for championing the interests of persons with disabilities, and called on the government to accept their request at face value and initiate an independent review.
