Meeting with Communities
This week I had the privilege to tour the southern end of Cariboo North. On Monday morning I was in Williams Lake meeting with local union representatives to discuss their concerns and outlook for 2012.
Over at Sugar Cane, I was honored to participate in a signing ceremony between the Williams Lake Indian Band and Mount Polley Mining Corporation. This agreement establishes a cooperative and mutually successful working relationship between the two parties. There is much work to be done on this file but it is a promising development as we look to diversify our local economy.
Monday evening I attended the Likely Chamber of Commerce AGM. Following that meeting, I held a community town hall to discuss the proposed Spanish Mountain Gold Mine with about 40 area residents.
Tuesday I met with local Horsefly Cattlemen regarding market conditions and the need for more action on invasive plants in the region. I also met with area residents at Black Creek in the far east of Cariboo North regarding maintenance of resource roads for permanent residents. With the pending Natural Resource Road Act, I will be raising user group concerns in the Legislature.
Tuesday evening I met with School District 27 trustees to look at the upcoming year and the status of student populations in the district, specifically in rural areas.
