What is a Mail-in Referendum?
A ballot will be mailed to all registered voters in the province asking a Yes or No question. In this case if there is a more than 50% majority of ballots returned to Elections BC marked ”Yes,” the government will be legally bound to “extinguish” the HST and restore the GST and PST. If the majority of the ballots are marked “No” then the HST will remain.
This summer’s referendum will be mailed out from June 13-24 2011. Ballot packages must be received by Elections BC, a Service BC Centre, or an Elections BC Collection Centre before 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2011. The yellow return envelope is postage-paid – no stamp is required if mailed in Canada.
In the event of a prolonged mail strike or lock out by Canada Post, you can drop your completed ballot off at your nearest Service BC location:
